Tips to Take Care of Your Baby in Summers

Mar 22, 2023

Summers are here. And as the temperature has started to rise, it's extremely important to take extra care of your little one during the summer months. Here are a few tips to help you keep your little one safe and comfortable during the hot season.

1. Dress your baby appropriately

  • It's important to dress your baby in light, loose-fitting, and breathable clothing made of natural fibres like cotton. Avoid using synthetic materials as they can trap heat and make your baby uncomfortable. Dress your baby in layers so that you can easily adjust their clothing if the temperature changes.

2. Keep your baby hydrated

  • During summer, it's important to keep your baby hydrated. Make sure you feed them with plenty of fluids like breast milk or water. Breast milk and formula are the best sources of hydration for babies that are under 6 months. If your baby has started consuming solids or fruits, fresh fruit juices are also a great alternative.

3. Frequent Baths
  • To keep your baby cool and refreshed, plan a bath for them. You can have these inflatable pools for kids that are available online. Add some rose petals or just simple water in the pool and let your baby splash and play for a while.

4. Avoid going out during the hottest part of the day

  • It's best to avoid taking your baby outside unnecessarily. Especially, during the hottest part of the day which is between 10 am and 4 pm, it is advisable to keep the baby indoors. If you do have to go out, use a stroller with a canopy or an umbrella to provide shade. Keep in mind that babies are more susceptible to heatstroke than adults, so it's important to take extra precautions.
5. Avoid keeping babies in a parked car or any suffocating places

  • Even if you're just running a quick errand, never keep your baby in a parked car. The temperature inside a parked car can rise quickly and can cause heatstroke. Babies need proper ventilation during high temperatures.

6. Use sunscreen

  • If your baby is 6 months or older, you can use sunscreen specifically designed for babies with SPF 30 or higher. Apply it 15-30 minutes before going outside and reapply every two hours. Keep in mind that babies under 6 months should be kept out of direct sunlight.

In conclusion, taking care of babies during the summer months requires extra attention and precautions. Dress them appropriately, keep them hydrated, and cool and avoid going out during the hottest part of the day. Following just these many tips will keep your baby in a jolly mood even in this scorching heat.
